From the 50 -year instrument collection of Mike Englander, bi-coastal percussionist, currently performing on Broadway in ALADDIN, and on theatrical motion pictures, most recently: COCO, NEWSIES, STAR WARS:ROGUE ONE, SPIDERMAN-HOMECOMING, JURASSIC WORLD, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, STAR TREK BEYOND, ZOOTOPIA, TOMORROWLAND, TANGLED.
In addition to playing on over 250 motion pictures and 400 television films, he is heard on more than 1000 episodes of Emmy and Peabody award-winning television animated shows including ANIMANIACS, PINKY AND THE BRAIN, FREAKAZOID, SYLVERTER AND TWEETY MYSTERIES, FUTURAMA, CASPER, TOONSYLVANIA, TAZ-MANIA, GOOF TROOP, GARGOYLES, and numerous others.
In New York and Los Angeles, theater work includes SISTER ACT, WICKED, PRODUCERS, LION KING, ANNIE, NEWSIES, DREAMGIRLS, CHORUS LINE, ANYTHING GOES, KISMET, CAMELOT, PETER PAN, THE WIZARD OF OZ, CHESS, SOUTH PACIFIC, THE KING AND I, and KISS ME KATE.
He was the Principal Timpanist (8 years) for Orange County Opera Pacific and also Principal Percussionist (10 years) for the Los Angeles engagements of American Ballet Theater, Kirov Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet and the Dance Theater of Harlem.
CD/LP Recordings include ALADDIN Original Broadway Cast, the World-Premiere of Steve Reich You Are Variations and Daniel Variations, What’s New (Linda Ronstadt/Nelson Riddle) and Live at Montreux (Don Ellis).
He is dedicated teacher, utilizing a pragmatic, current-world approach, with a strong desire to provide students with tools they can immediately use in real job situations. He has provided Broadway debuts to 3 individuals under the age of 26 and recently Hollywood Bowl debut to two other former students.
Mr. Englander grew up in Cleveland, OH, moved to Los Angeles for 35 years and now resides in New York City. He attended the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California; private study with Richard Weiner, Cloyd Duff, Charles Owen, Kenneth Watson and Matthew Starr.
