About KJ's Vintage Guitars

Hello, I am K.J. I have played music for over 50 years, did a few stints touring in bands, and still play jazz in my hometown of Denver, CO. I played guitar for many years and switched to fretless and upright bass. Along the way, I enjoyed collecting guitars. Now retired, I have gradually been selling off all but a few of my instruments. I have considerable expertise with guitars, after buying and selling dozens over my lifetime, working on them, dissecting and analyzing them, and doing research. I take pride in my knowledge, attention to detail, and experience. Honesty and integrity are very important to me, and I pride myself on dealing with people how I'd like them to deal with me. I enjoy talking to both musicians and collectors who enjoy the history and evolution of musical instruments as much as I do. I have stayed in touch with people I've connected with all over the world! But I am basically a private collector, not a dealer. You might find my instruments listed locally for sale for lower prices on Denver Craigslist

Music has been a part of my life since I was a kid, when I learned to play on my Dad’s 1920’s Washburn acoustic (which I still have and play daily) and was motivated by watching my older brother play bass with several prominent Denver rock bands. My first guitar was a 1967 Martin 00-21, amplified with a Barcus Berry transducer, to play “I’m You’re Captain” (Grand Funk Railroad) and “From the Beginning” (Emerson, Lake & Palmer), and a rockin' church weekly guitar mass. From there I graduated to a ’57 Tele (my first electric, sure wish I still had that baby!). Over the years, I played in bands, including a mean rhythm guitar in a funk/soul band that toured all over for years. By then, I’d switched to a Gibson semi-hollow Trini Lopez and ES335's. Eventually, I heard Jaco, switched to fretless and upright bass, and got more into Jazz. All of my instruments were hand-picked and lovingly cared for. Each one is unique, has a "story", and deserves a good home, I hope someone who will care for them as much as I have.
