Discovering Don
This shop exists because of one very good trumpeter: Donald Paller, my late brother-in-law — and the 1970 Bach Stradivarius he played for most of his life.
Don played in the Purdue University "All-American" Marching Band, and the Strad he bought as a young player stayed with him ever after. He didn't treat it as a keepsake gathering dust — he took care of it, kept the original mouthpieces and case, and left it in the kind of condition you rarely see in a horn this age.
After Don passed, our family began cataloging everything he'd collected over a lifetime — a project we call "Discovering Don," because that's what it's been: learning who he was through the things he loved. His trumpet is the centerpiece.
Before listing it, we had the horn professionally serviced by Quinlan & Fabish Music Company, a trusted Chicagoland band and orchestra shop. The service receipt is on file and referenced in the listing. This isn't an attic find — it's a playable, cared-for instrument, checked over by professionals and described honestly.
You won't find a big storefront here, and that's the point. We're a family making sure Don's trumpet ends up in the hands of a player who will actually use it — which is what he would have wanted. Questions are always welcome, and it ships insured with signature confirmation.
