Colson of York specialises in handmade analogue guitar amplifiers, built on the outskirts of York in England.
Created by Drew Colson in very small numbers, each amplifier brings together a carefully chosen analogue platform, hand-built hardwood cabinet and matched speaker to create an amp with its own feel, response and material story.
Colson amps are made for players who care about pedal response, natural materials, cabinet character and the way analogue components come together to create something special. These are worlds apart from mass-produced units, and they are not built from standard MDF boxes. Each one is shaped, finished, voiced and assembled individually.
The work focuses on one-off builds and small named series, using hardwoods such as Yorkshire sycamore and sapele, analogue circuitry, carefully selected speakers and practical features for real players.
Every Colson amplifier is built as a complete system, with circuit, speaker, cabinet, layout, materials and final feel all considered together.
