Telefunken was founded in Germany in 1903 as a partnership betwee AEG and Siemens at the time. They produced quality audio and technical equipment through the late 20th century, with the Beatles employing some of their gear on Abbey Road. The brand was acquired by Telefunken USA to restore and replicate original mic designs, and eventually evolved into Telefunken Elektroacoustik. 

The Telefunken M16 MKII is the upgrade-by-obligation that happened after it was exposed that the original design (which retailed for $1000) was functionally identical to the $200 Apex 460. Every component was upgraded, making it closer to the original C12 design.
