About this listing
2012 Pro Series Standard Bass S4 Now in Stock!
The volume pot has been replaced. Since the original tone pot is from 2012, we've determined this is a 2012 model. The body back features two-piece basswood, known for its neutral acoustic characteristics, while the top showcases luxurious quilted maple. The neck is crafted from quartersawn maple, offering both premium feel and strength. The neck profile is an ‘Even C Slim .800-.880’, finished slightly thinner, and combined with a 10“-14” fingerboard radius, it enables stress-free, high playability. The frets are Heavy gauge nickel.
The front and center positions feature ML Standard pickups. With a DC resistance of approximately 6.4KΩ for both the neck and center positions, they deliver a juicier, hotter tone than other vintage pickups while maintaining a sparkling brilliance. The rear position houses a single-screw type ‘SSH+’. Its DC resistance is approximately 17KΩ, offering a tone design capable of covering a wide range of genres. It is crafted using hand-selected Alnico magnets and carefully chosen components. It also offers the added benefit of more prominently showcasing the body wood's characteristics. The tremolo unit is the reliable Gotoh 510, and the tuners are Suhr locking types.
The body has wipe marks, scuffs, linear scratches, and dents. The pickguard has fine, hazy-looking pick marks. There are pick marks on the left curve of the body top, visible when held up to light. Additionally, there are small, scattered impact marks on the lower right section of the body top. The lower right of the body back has rough impact marks, and the edge area has a dent accompanied by paint chipping the size of a grain of rice. There are also linear scratches on the upper part of the back contour and the lower left of the body back. There is some raised plywood visible due to paint thinning, but this is normal aging and should not be a concern. The neck back has occasional scratches made by fingernails in places. There are impact marks on the 2nd fret (1st string side) fingerboard edge and the 6th fret (5th string side). All hardware shows some wear but no significant damage.
The neck condition is fine, and the truss rod can be adjusted both tightening and loosening. The frets show no noticeable string wear and have about 50% life remaining. The current string height is set to approximately 1.5mm at the 12th fret (6th string side) and about 1.2mm at the 12th fret (1st string side).
Overall, it shows age-appropriate wear, but the body top has no noticeable damage. Due to heavy playing, the frets are about 50% worn, but it's still very playable. In the front & center positions, unlike the alder-bodied ‘Classic’, it delivers a sparkling, brilliant sound! It produces a clear, well-defined single-coil sound suitable for various genres and situations. In the rear position, it shifts to output a juicy, squishy sound while maintaining an edgy, well-defined tone that's easy to handle without being overly muddy.
