Video: 20 Classic Rickenbacker Riffs in (Basically) One Take

We've yet to meet a song that Joe Shadid can't play. Here at Reverb, we often ask him to learn and teach the tunes of greats like Joni Mitchell, Jerry Garcia, Mississippi John Hurt, and many others. But sometimes, when Joe gets going, he just won't stop.

In July, he treated us to 20 classic Telecaster riffs—played back-to-back in one take. And in August he did the same for songs famously played on Les Pauls. Today, he's back with 20 classic Rickenbacker riffs from the likes of R.E.M., Creedence Clearwater Revival, and, of course, The Byrds.

While the bright, shimmery tone of the Rickenbacker 360-12 makes plenty of appearances, there's also a variety of styles that may surprise some listeners unaccustomed to a Rick's versatility—from the punk attack of The Jam's "In the City" to the lilting psych rock of Tame Impala's "Solitude is Bliss."

Be sure to check out the full video above, find your own Rickenbacker on Reverb, and browse Reverb LP to get these riffs on wax.
