KMC Unveils Brand-New Dream Cymbals Eclipse Half-Lathed Cymbal Line | NAMM 2020

Now that NAMM is less than one week out, drum companies have started revealing what new offerings fans and players can expect to see this year. One such bit of news came from the brand KMC Music, which announced yesterday that it would be unveiling a whole new Dream Cymbals line at the NAMM show next week.

Dream Cymbals saw a lot of success with its 21" Dark Matter Eclipse Ride and this series seeks to capitalize on that by expanding it into its own series, the Dream Eclipse line of half-lathed cymbals. The line will include the new Eclipse 15 Hi-Hat, Eclipse 17 Crash, Eclipse 19 Crash, Eclipse 21 Ride, and Eclipse 23 Ride.

Dream Cymbals are special because they're completely handmade the old way—firing the cymbals in an oven before hammering them out and submerging them in a saltwater bath. Because this series of cymbals is half-lathed, the metal is then returned to the oven after soaking to be re-fired before the outer edges are treated with a Bliss-style lathe.

This process gives players two really unique sounds in one cymbal—the articulate, precise, and clear un-lathed bell and center and the beautifully washy lathed edges, full of complex melodic overtones.
