California rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers announced today that pioneering guitarist John Frusciante will be rejoining the band after a decade-long absence. Frusciante will be replacing Josh Klinghoffer, who has been with the band since 2009. In a statement posted to Instagram, the band thanked Klinghoffer for "the countless gifts he shared with us" while announcing Frusciante's return "with great excitement, and full hearts."
This will be Frusciante's third stint with the band following his initial run from 1988 to 1992, and a reunion that lasted from 1998 to 2009. The band has tour dates scheduled starting this May though it is possible that this reunited RHCP lineup will appear before then.
