How to Take Advantage of the Holidays as a Reverb Seller

Black Friday and the peak of the holiday shopping season are right around the corner. While brick-and-mortar chains and department stores used to dominate holiday sales, anyone with an internet connection and something to sell can now take advantage of the annual retail frenzy.

At Reverb, this time of year brings more traffic to our site, with more dollars being spent on every category of music gear. Whether you're a large-scale operation with thousands of listings or an independent seller with a couple of used pedals to clear, we want to help you sell as much gear as you can this season.

Follow these tips to get traffic to your listings and money in the bank.

1) Get Your Listings Up

It seems obvious, but holiday success starts with getting all of your listings up on Reverb before the rush begins. Take the time now to make sure all your inventory is listed, with the right information and pricing.

If you're selling used gear, do a sweep of your music space to find anything extra lying around that you might be able to sell. This time of year especially, the more the merrier. You can use the Reverb app to take photos of your gear and get listings live in under five minutes.

We’re expecting monthly sitewide traffic to double during November and December, so you’re missing out on your share of the millions of pageviews we receive if you haven’t made the time to create your listings.

If you’re interested in creating listings in bulk, take a look at our CSV import tool or one of the many available integrations.

2) Promote Your Listings with Bump

Because Reverb has hundreds of thousands of listings, using Reverb Bump is the best way to make sure that your items appear at the top of relevant searches. Bumped listings typically sell 1.5 to 2 times faster than an un-Bumped listing.

Our “Bump for New” feature is also the only way your items can occupy the “Add to Cart” button at the top of our comparison shopping pages. Items on these pages sell 4 times faster than from a standard listing. If you’re looking to drive more sales to your brand new inventory and can contribute a little extra margin, Bump for New is the best way move volume.

3) Don't Be Afraid of Shipping Internationally

Reverb’s global reach has increased significantly this year. Take advantage of these new audiences by adding international shipping rates to all of your eligible items.

Every month, Reverb sellers move millions of dollars worth of inventory to eager buyers outside of their home countries. Even with the recent CITES regulations, there’s a clear opportunity for sellers who are willing to put in the time to set up shipping rates to the top Reverb territories. If you’re a U.S. seller, you can also ship with confidence when you purchase a Reverb Shipping Label for all international orders with a declared value of under $2,500 USD.

If this feels overwhelming, start with your listings that have similar weights and dimensions, like pedals or electric guitars. You can then bulk-apply a shipping profile with international rates using our CSV import tool.

4) Customer Service is Key

Again, this may seem obvious, but don’t let a slow response time be the difference between making or losing a sale. E-commerce is a 24/7 business—the sellers that quickly accommodate buyers and their questions generate the most sales.

Buyers typically have more questions about their possible purchases during the holidays. Because a lot of buyers are making purchases for someone other than themselves, buyers need to be reassured they are making the right decision. Be prepared for additional questions about shipping times, since some purchases will likely be time-sensitive the closer we get to the holidays.

If you haven’t already, download the Reverb app. This is the easiest way to respond to messages and offers quickly, and even while on the go.

5) Add Your Items to Our Sitewide Sales

If you’re a Reverb Preferred Seller, you can add your eligible inventory into Reverb’s heavily trafficked sitewide sales.

On average, sellers who list all eligible inventory in these sales have a 130% increase in their standard weekly order volume. In addition, these sales account for up to 30% of a seller’s Q4 revenue.

If you want to participate in a sitewide sale—and you have 10 or more sales and an average feedback rating of at least 4.5 stars—you can apply to the program here.
