At the 2019 Grammy awards, singer-songwriter H.E.R. won two awards and performed with a head-turning clear Stratocaster furnished by the Fender Custom Shop. This year, for the 2020 ceremony, H.E.R. was back with four nominations and an equally intriguing instrument: the Roland GPX-F1 Facet Grand Piano.

Played during a performance of her song "Sometimes," this futuristic piano concept was recently introduced by Roland at the CES convention in Las Vegas and could also be seen at the company's NAMM booth earlier this month. The space-age design was based on a submission to the Digital Piano Design Awards by Jong Chan Kim and includes a series of speakers and resonators within the body of the instrument to replicate the sound of an acoustic grand. Per Roland, there are currently no plans to launch the Facet as a full production model.

Later in the performance, H.E.R. broke out an all-black Strat (with matching headstock) to deliver what can accurately be described as a Prince-esque guitar solo.
