Eventide Updates Its Blackhole Reverb Plugin | Reverb Software Pick

Today, Eventide announced an update to its popular Blackhole plugin, a reverb effect prized for its limitless possibilities and potential for unreal soundscapes.

The Blackhole originally began as an algorithm within Eventide's DSP4000 rackmount unit, made its way into the company's Space stompbox, and then became its own standalone plugin in 2012.

Today's update includes a new GUI interface, NKS compatibility for use with Native Instruments' Maschine and Komplete Kontrol, added MIDI functionality, unique Gravity control reverses the arrow of time by inverting the reverb’s decay, Ribbon and Hotswitch allow for changing any combination of parameters simultaneously, and Preset compatibility with H9 Control.

I personally love the Blackhole Reverb for its creative space design functionality. It’s an essential tool for my production work and one that I turn to time and time again for creating unrealistic space with a reverberation effect.

To illustrate the spatial, textural capabilities of this extraterrestrial Reverb, I produced an original work using Blackhole on almost every track.

Below, you will find my original composition aptly named "Verberant Noir." I have included selected parts, dry and processed, to demonstrate some of the evolving textures that Blackhole has become infamous for.

Be sure to check out the demo, as well as the individual parts used to create it, in the Soundcloud playlist above. Download the Reverb Exclusive Blackhole Presets used in this composition for free here.

To celebrate this launch, take 66% off Eventide Blackhole Reverb ($69 USD) through May 31, 2018. Anyone who buys the plugin will get the new NKS format—along with the standard AAX, VST, and AU formats—and existing owners can get the update for free from Eventide's website.
