Brian Setzer Is Coming to Reverb

An early version of Brian Setzer's Gretsch Smoke signature, a well-loved '63 Fender Bassman, his T.V. Jones "Grinch" Baritone—these pieces of rockabilly history and more are coming to Reverb.

The Official Brian Setzer Reverb Shop is open now, and in it you'll find dozens of guitars, amps, and even a silver sparkle upright bass from across the Stray Cats and The Brian Setzer Orchestra leader's career.

"So I guess you're wondering why I'm selling all these guitars," Setzer says in the video above. "I've heard that you can only play one at a time—I don't know if I believe that, but, that's what I've heard."

Luckily for us, Setzer is opening the doors to his collection and selling off more than a few of his excess gems.

These include a prototype of his Gretsch signature guitar, modeled after the vintage original. "People are very interested in the guitar that's called Smoke, that Gretsch is making," he tells us. "It's an exact replica of the guitar I've played for 30 years. I've played it on all the albums and tours, on 'Sleepwalk' and all those songs. They've made two prototypes. This is the first prototype of the Smoke guitar. That's a real nice-playing one."

As you can see in the gallery above, there's quite a bounty of gorgeous instruments available.

Another of Setzer's favorites is a leopard-print Gretsch Hot Rod painted by TV Jones, the renowned luthier and pickup maker that has had a close working relationship with Setzer for decades. "That one is gonna be—you better buy that quick. I might not sell that," Setzer says.

Many other guitars up for sale here have been customized or built by TV Jones, and in fact, all of the guitars have passed through TV Jones' tech shop. In addition to the Gretsches you'd expect to find, you'll also see a Rickenbacker 12-String Setzer used to play "Mini Bar Blues" on his 13 album and tour. "I achieved the unique sound by tuning the top two strings, the Bs and the Es, in harmony," Setzer says.

The Official Brian Setzer Reverb Shop is now open.
