About this listing
I'm parting with my synthotron first edition after years of use in the studio, as I'm moving towards a eurorack setup for this particular project (solo treated electric guitar triggering beats and synths), and eurorack certainly ain't free!Mint condition, always kept in a smoke-free, pet-free studio, The pedal is basically 99% in its original condition (there is one micro-scratch that's basically been there from day one, hardly noticeable).Comes in its original box with all the original accessories: denim protective bag, manual, AC adapter with four different plugs ( please check pictures to see if compatible with your country's plug type).I will pack this box in a padded box for sending. What you can expect from this pedal:first off, it is not for the faint-hearted! there are plenty of sounds to be found within, but forget about trying to use it as a "synthy" fuzz, it's just not it!It is very important to set the trigger response to your instrument, and to your playing style, which is done via a trim pot inside the pedal, so you will need to unscrew the bottom lid of the pedal and adjust that pot in real time with your guitar plugged-in. I've used it with a 90's squier strat with single coils, a danelectro with lipstick singles, a squier jagmaster with humbuckers, and a Vox Apache, and I got wildly varying responses. Volume and tone pots on your guitar will also affect that, so be patient and take time to find the sweet spot if you want the synth side to accurately track your notes. It's obviously doesn't work with chords, but I've tried it on bass and got good results. For me, what's great about this pedal is the dry blend, and I've used it mostly with an already fuzzed-out signal, blended to taste with the wet. The synth sound can be overwhelming at times and I've enjoyed it more placed before a light overdrive and wet reverb. The onboard filter colors the sound more than allowing you to tame it, so whatever pedals you put after it will be paramount in how it can fit in with other instruments, in a band context for example. The filter is also great on its own, with the synth part off. This is definitely a "build your music around the gear" type of pedal, not the other way around, I would recommend it for any experimental avenue of music-making.I find that I had my hands on the pedal a lot of the time while playing, as the controls can drastically change the sound coming out of the pedal, and I ended up using with a looper, so as to focus on shaping the sound in real-time. The controls are pretty small (knobs and switches are the size you find on mini-pedals) so you might want to put it on a riser if placed at your feet, so as to not accidentally kick the tiny switches (I kept it up on a synth stand in front of me with other gear, so did not have that kind of issues).Size-wise, the pedal is not that big, about the size of a EHX deluxe memory man. It is well-built and sturdy.Overall a very cool, creative pedal, frustrating at times perhaps but mostly inspiring, for all you experimental-minds, noise explorers, synth-heads out there!
