It is part of Casio's VL-Tone series and retains the compact, portable design of its predecessor. The VL-5 introduced more preset sounds and rhythms, expanding the instrument's versatility. Its affordability and ease of use made it a popular choice for musicians looking for a portable and fun synthesizer.
