I am offering here a Gibson SJ-200 Reissue Antique Natural from 1998, a crafted in Bozeman, Montana (USA), all-solid-timber reissue luxury version of the “King of the Flat-Tops” acoustic guitar model featuring a voluminous Super Jumbo design, select “AAA” Sitka spruce top, back and sides made of spectacularly figured “AAA” flamed maple, walnut-reinforced flamed maple neck featuring vertical growth rings and rounded neck profile, bound rosewood fingerboard with classic mother-of-pearl crown inlays, high-quality Gotoh Gold Keystone tuners, and moustache rosewood bridge with 4-piece mother-of-pearl inlays in a radiant Antique Natural high-gloss nitro finish with hand-painted tortoise pickguard in excellent collector's condition, including original Gibson deluxe hardshell case and professional setup with 12-53 Elixir 80/20 strings.
The historically legendary “King of the Flat-tops” debuted in 1937, setting an unmatched standard for tone at the time, and is today rightly considered one of the most popular acoustic guitars in the world. Bob Dylan, Elvis, and Pete Townshend—the SJ-200 has been played by countless artists on more albums than any other jumbo acoustic in history.
Just like the original, the rare 1998 reissue version (“Good Wood era”) presented here features the solid Super Jumbo body style, a resonant Sitka spruce top, and a body made of impressively flamed maple—which together deliver a powerful, rich sound. The medium-width flamed maple neck, with its rounded profile, feels immediately comfortable in the hand, and the 20 frets on the rosewood fingerboard—bound in cream-white binding and featuring classic Gibson mother-of-pearl crown inlays—offer incredibly smooth playability.
The large soundbox gives the SJ-200 fantastic volume, allowing it to stand out sonically in any set. The bass notes are powerful, and the treble comes through crystal-clear with brilliant overtones. Clearly defined yet exceptionally warm—in short: it quickly becomes clear why it’s the king of flat-tops.
A sound sample of this model (from 1997 only) can be found above at the end of the photo gallery.
The classic gold Gibson Deluxe Keystone tuners offer excellent tuning stability and blend harmoniously into the overall look. The Antique Natural Nitro high-gloss finish impressively highlights the grain of the flamed maple, while the florally decorated tortoise pickguard adds an elegant visual highlight.
