This unit is as close to new as a 1998 instrument can be. The original manuals have never been removed from their packaging. The power cable has never been used. What is the FS1R?

Released for only one year in 1998, only a few hundred were sold worldwide — a polyphonic synth engine that is unique in the world of sound generation and sound design. Yamaha Black Boxes

The FS1R was basically the ultimate FM synthesizer from Yamaha, makers of the original DX7 — but it does much more than that. It has an incredible array of algorithms, 8 operators, a very impressive filter, and formant sequencing. Eriemusic

What sets it completely apart from everything else is Formant Shaping Synthesis. In order to accurately emulate the workings of a human vocal tract, Yamaha provided two sets of formant operators — eight "voiced" and eight "unvoiced" — working side by side in pairs, making it effectively a 16-operator synth. eBay
