The 1970s was an interesting era for Fender. After the massive success of the '60s, CBS aimed to increase profits by cutting costs in the manufacturing process. But that doesn't mean guitars from the '70s aren’t worth your time—far from it. This mid-'70s Stratocaster is living proof that great instruments were still being made during that period!

Stratocasters from the 1970s are instantly recognisable for their large headstocks, solid build and unmistakable presence, and this example delivers exactly the kind of character vintage fans are looking for. The guitar features an ash body finished in sunburst, showing clear signs of extensive playtime. There is visible playwear throughout the body, including burn marks on the top, all of which add to its authentic vintage appeal.

This Stratocaster still retains its original trio of single coil pickups, delivering the familiar chime, bite and clarity that defined Fender’s sound during this era. The potentiometers are original, and even the pickup selector remains untouched, with the factory 3 way switch still in place. It is becoming increasingly rare to find a 1970s Stratocaster with this level of originality intact.

The 1970s were an interesting and transitional period for Fender, and this instrument tells that story perfectly. The serial number on the neck plate dates to 1976, as do the potentiometers, while the pickups are dated 1977 and are fully original. It is most likely that this guitar was assembled from available parts and completed in 1977, which was common practice during that time.

Despite its honest wear, the guitar is in very good condition overall and remains a highly playable and inspiring vintage Stratocaster. It comes in a gig bag and is delivered with a TFOA passport.
