[Overview]

This is a Greco violin bass.

Based on the serial number and specifications, it appears to be model number VB800, manufactured in March 2002, and manufactured by Terada Musical Instruments.

It appears to be the same model as the VB80 and VB90, but with different model numbers.

The Greco logo on the headstock has been removed and replaced with Hofner, but the Hofner logo itself is slightly applied, which is quite nicely finished.

The tuning machines appear to be the original GOTOH machines, but the tuning machine buttons are pearloid, which is a nice touch.

By the way, the posts on these tuning machines are thicker than the original Hofner machines, so they can also be used with regular medium-scale flat strings. Flat strings for violin basses are ridiculously expensive, so this is an excellent choice not only in terms of stability and performance, but also in terms of operating costs. It's currently strung with flat strings, and the natural sound is great.

It's listed at a low price, so I recommend it especially for anyone looking to try out a violin bass. It's reliably made in Japan. Please consider it.

[Scratches, etc.]

There are no noticeable scratches, dents, or peeling marks overall.

However, as this is an old instrument, please understand that there may be minor scratches and marks. There is some deterioration in the metal parts.

It is not possible to photograph everything, but please check the images.

The entire instrument has been cleaned.

[Neck, etc.]

There is a slight forward bow. (This is adjusted to match the string vibration range of the short scale.)

The truss rod can still be tightened, but it is a bit stiff.

I loosen the strings when not playing, but the condition is stable.

[Frets/Fingerboard]

The frets appear to be relatively well-worn considering the instrument's age, but it should be fine if you consider them to be about 70% worn.

The frets have been polished, the fingerboard cleaned, moisturized with oil, and maintained with beeswax.

[String Height]

At the 12th fret, the string height is approximately 3mm for the 4th string and 2mm for the 1st string.

The bridge is currently lowered all the way down.

The settings have not been adjusted, so there may be some buzzing. Please adjust to your preference.

[Sound Controls]

There are no particular issues with the controls or output.

There is no scratchiness or noise.

However, since this instrument is quite old, it is best not to purchase if you are unable to maintain the electrical system yourself.

[Weight]

2.5 kg on a household scale.

The weight is slightly biased towards the head, but this is not an issue if you play with a bass violin-like form.

[Accessories]

None. Main unit only.

Kept in a non-smoking, pet-free environment.

Odorless.

This is a replica Greco Thunderbird bass from the original.

I purchased it used. It's powerful and stands out even in live performances.

Although it's a vintage Greco, it has many scratches.

Shipping

Worldwide shipping from Tokyo. For goods with hard cases we usually pack hard case and contents by cushioning material (usually bubble wrap). There has never been a problem with that shipping method so far. However, if you want a hard case to be included in cardboard, I can ship by that method if you pay additional $10. This applies only to products that originally have hard case.

Items are generally shipped on Mondays and Fridays. For safety reasons, items that can be removed from the body and neck will be shipped with the body and neck removed.

(Sunday and public holidays is not business day)

We usually ship with a tracking number.
