PedalPCB Kliche Mini Klone (D9E diodes & brightness mod)

The Kliche Mini is a pedal inspired by a classic overdrive pedal with a rather legendary status (the one with a centaur on it). This is probably one of the most popular overdrive pedals out there and produces a harmonically rich sound that is fairly transparent and results in a big open sound.

So, what makes this Klone different than others? For starters, it's not an exact Klone. I added a few modifications that help curb off some of the common complaints with many Klones. More on that in a sec.

With one of the previous Klones I built, I did a side-by-side comparison with a Wampler Tumnus, a pedal that many feel is a near spot-on clone of the original and is common pick in blind Klone pedal tests. The Klone I built sounded identical to the Tumnus...at least to my ears.

But after playing with it a while, I found it to be a bit on the bright side. So I modified it a little to help curb the brightness a touch. It's a subtle change for sure but an improvement in my opinion.

I also switched out the the 1N34A diodes that are commonly used in Klones and replaced them with D9E diodes. This results in slighly less compression and a softer tone. Again, a subtle difference but one that I felt help further curb off the brassiness of the sound.

Overall, I'm quite pleased how this pedal turned out. That said, if you don't want these modifications and would prefer a stock Klone, let me know and I'll build one for you.

In terms of design, I wanted the pedal to invoke an element of classiness. Centaur graphics are pretty common with a lot of Klones out there (including the original!) so I wanted to incorporate that into the design. I kept the typography simple, utilizing serif fonts that feel timeless. Adding a gold switch with gold topped Marshall style knobs gives it just the right amount of class.

The pedal was built utilizing a PCB from PedalPCB with quality components such as Wima capacitors. Great care and attention was placed in the construction, which should result in a pedal that will last the owner a long time.

Note: This pedal requires a 9V DC power cable. No battery functionality is provided.

All pedals sold on my shop include a 14-day return policy. Beyond that, if you have any problems with the pedal within a year of purchase, contact me and I'll work with you to resolve any issues. As long as the pedal has not been misused and/or abused, I'll be happy to fix or replace the pedal for just the cost of shipping.
