Vintage Marantz 1070 Integrated Amplifier Sounds Awesome! Nice Not Museum Quality

When I got this amp I was pretty disappointed. I thought she was in pretty rough shape. The main speaker terminal was broke, was only getting signal out of one channel, and I thought it was pretty rough cosmetically as well…not what I expected when I bought it. If you follow me at all, you’re probably aware I look for top tier examples…rough is not a habit for me.

Well, popped the top to start to suss out the performance issues. After looking at the balance control, the lever had popped so it wasn’t making contact on the right channel. A wee bit of manipulation, and some Deoxit fader lube and all’s well!! That speaker terminal was a different story. Ordered another one up and bribed my local tech to pop her in for me quick! Boom!! Everything is 100% working, and might I say sounding wonderful through all the inputs and outputs!!!
The burn mark on the back is a bit of a mystery. My tech checked it out completely as did I, and found no evidence of any damage. Either it was a smoke show with no damage, or the damage was repaired at some point.

Cosmetically, she’s not museum quality…but nowhere near as bad as I feared!! The chassis does have a fair amount of staining, and even a few spots of rust. But looking at the transformer, the boards, and the underside, it really looks pretty decent. No bulging caps or burnt traces! The back panel shows no evidence of rust, and all the inputs were polished and brushed with Deoxit for optimal connection. So really, what it boils down to cosmetically is a couple scratches on a couple knobs and a few scratches on the faceplate. The cabinet is really near perfect…the screws did have some rust, so I buffed off the rust and gave ‘em a coat of black paint.

So…with the prices of Marantz gear going through the roof,(especially the 1060), this might be the perfect chance to get a really great sounding amp with even a bit more power than the 1060, and save a few $$$ in the process!! Pots and switches are treated and I ran her overnight with absolutely no drama! If you don’t mind a couple of blemishes, this is a awesome deal!!!

The amp will be packed very securely and shipped via FedEx and will be insured for the full purchase price. Although I do guarantee that the amp will not arrive DOA, this amp is sold AS IS.
