2007 Gibson SG 3 Classic

I bought this rare Gibson SG3 new at Guitar Center in 07. These are not very common, and don't come up for sale that much when I've looked in the past.

It's been an awesome guitar to play anytime I have a chance to spend a little time with it. It's never left my home, and only played occasionally since I have several others to play as well.

This guitar has had some upgrades and cosmetic changes...nothing that was permanent, and no routing.

I installed Kluson Revolution tuners which are tighter than the original keystone green tuners. You can also tighten the button screw on these for a more secure feel, where the originals were not adjustable.

The bridge pickup was replaced with a DiMarzio Super Distortion which gives this the definite metal option! The middle and neck are both the original 490R pickups I believe which are very versatile for various styles.

I also added the solid ebony hand inlaid truss rod cover. The 3 skulls sort of represented the 3 pickups in my mind, so a bit of fun there!

I also changed the traditional SG 60s style knobs to a more aggressive Jaguar knob that matches the original Chicken head knob for the pickup switch.

The pickguard was also changed from the original white to a 3 ply black one.

Again, I think this really made the guitar look better and more sinister/aggressive and well suited for rock or metal.

This guitar weighs 7.3 lbs and has an open pore, factory worn ebony Nitro finish. The fingerboard is a nice piece of rosewood with good grain and color. The stock frets are medium sized, but fairly tall to my hand.

I've had this almost 20 years and never had any interest in selling it until recently since it plays and sounds awesome.

But my hands are getting tired more easily, so I'm selling several of my guitars so I can actually play all the ones I have.

This one has always played really well with great action and very solid tuning stability. The tones are the best thing about this guitar though.

The 6 way rotary pickup switch can get the in-between/mixed sounds of the neck/middle and middle/bridge pickups almost like a Strat. It also can select each pickup alone or in the last position select the bridge and neck pickups in series.

The middle pickup by itself sounds really great in this guitar, and is something you can't get on the typical gibson with only two pickups. So this guitar just has a lot more sounds than your average LP, 335, or SG.

And the DiMarzio Super Distortion is the icing on the cake allowing some heavier sounds than it was capable with the stock 490T pickup.

The comfort of this neck is really nice too since I had my guitar tech roll the fingerboard edges. The profile is comfortable too, with something between the normal SG standard 'fuller' profile feel, and Gibsons slim taper profile of their 60s LP Standards. This is just how I would describe it, but others may feel it differently. Either way, it's full enough feeling to make fatter neck people pretty happy, yet tapers just enough for slimmer profile fans.

I'll add 1st and 12th fret measurements to the description soon.

The frets on this still have most of their meat left. I've played this, but there are not many hours on the guitar overall.

The original tuners, knobs, truss rod cover, are included.

I could not locate the original bridge pickup or the white pick guard. I may be able to find the the pickguard and will include it if I do. But no guarantees....

I'm also including the Pignose gigbag show in the photos, which is actually a very good bag with very decent padding. It didn't come with a case, so I've just kept it in this bag when not in use.

I'll pack this guitar very well for shipping, with at least two layers of large bubble wrap used around the bag. Then extra packing material will be used to further insulate it from the outside of the box.

Thanks for checking out the listing!
