This listing is for a 2014 Keith B Roscoe LG 3005. I just purchased this bass a few weeks ago and have since been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. I've had my fair share of medical struggles (some of you may know I also live with MS), but this most recent news is a call to action that requires my full investment...whether time, effort, and seemingly most importantly, financially...
The bass was purchased as a NOS/Demo from an authorized Roscoe dealership. Upon purchasing, I sent it to the Roscoe factory in Greensboro, NC to be PLEK'd and to have a Hipshot detuner installed so that the low "b" string could be dropped instantly to a. The bass plays amazingly! The neck is sublime. The whole instrument resonates through the swamp ash back and into your sternum. It speaks with amazing authority. The low b is definitely the best I've ever played. Even the low a is as good as the low b on any 34" scale I've ever played. The Bartolini pre is quiet and adds amazing control in sculpting 3 bands of frequencies. I have to make special note of the treble control, however. The top end of this bass is so buttery and smooth that it's just breathtaking. While the tonewood debate is one much like politics or religion, I will say that with my history playing bass over 30 years, this particular Roscoe (and I've played a few) has a little more bite than similarly equipped ones I've played. To which I attribute to the wenge fingerboard; in my humble opinion. The neck is straight and the action is medium low with zero buzz and nice tight tension allowing for effortless right hand plucking speed and articulation.
The bass has a very unique walnut burl top that takes on several different characteristics of that particular species. While it's not the dark chocolate with black grain that one would expect, it has some sapwood mingling in a marbled swirl with heartwood. You see patters of crotch, flame, and burl in this top, along with a near chevron in the center of darker heartwood. The bookmatching, while asymmetrical and atypical, lends a great deal of character to the piece. The back is two piece swamp ash, the neck is the typical quartersawn maple and purpleheart that Roscoe fans know and love. The fretboard, as mentioned above is wenge.
The bass comes with the typical Roscoe branded TKL hard shell case. I actually have the case stored away and the bass is currently in an amazing brand new Reunion Blues Continental gig bag ($189.99). Buying at the listed price will allow you your choice of either, however if making an offer, the bass will be shipped in the Roscoe case. If someone makes me an offer and wishes to have the gig bag instead, I would be willing to include it for an up charge of $100.
The bass was a NOS bass that was on display, and as such it has some very fine intermittent surface scratches in the clear. They are very faint, few, and far between and happened in the course of its handling. The bass is in the very same condition as it was received. They are far too faint to even photograph and I only mention them as I am a super picky person and want to be as forthcoming as humanly possible. Any buyer will have to look very closely, very intently to see them. There's no doubt they will buff out. The bass is and looks brand new. The ONLY reason that this bass is listed as "excellent" and not mint is because of these fine intermittent scratches...as such, if meticulously following the letter of Reverbs description policy requires anything that has a mark of any kind to be listed as excellent over mint.
Please feel free to review my feedback...I am a very conscientious seller and will give all my effort to make this your best buying experience ever. Shipping price quoted is for the 48 contiguous states. Anyone outside those areas should contact me for a shipping quote and discussing logistics options.
