The Digital Music Corporation (DMC) MX-8 is a 1U rack-mount MIDI patch bay and real-time data processor introduced in the late 1980s. It features 6 MIDI inputs, 8 MIDI outputs, and 50 user preset memories to route and transform MIDI setups in studio and live environments.
Key Capabilities & Features
- Routing Matrix: Freely route any of the 6 inputs to any of the 8 outputs.
- Dual Processors (A and B): Two independent internal processors allow real-time data manipulation, which can also be merged together.
- MIDI Merging & Splitting: Combine multiple controllers (like a keyboard and a sequencer) to drive a single sound module, or split keyboards into distinct zones.
- Advanced Processing: Includes velocity limiting, channel shifting, reassigning, and a built-in MIDI digital delay/echo effect.
Hardware Interface
- Front Panel: Equipped with a 32-character backlit display window, cursor keys, Yes/No data buttons, a Function selection button, and a Reset panic button.
- Memory Management: Stores complex routing maps, channel configurations, and processor states under 10-character user names.
Original User manuals included.
