Vintage 1970s Slingerland 14x20 bass drum being sold as a restoration/project drum. This is the highly desirable 14x20 size favored by many jazz and vintage drum enthusiasts.
The shell appears to be structurally sound and round. Bearing edges look good, the hardware has cleaned up nicely and shines well, and all tension rods turn freely. The heads are in decent usable condition.
Please read the following condition notes carefully:
• Poor-quality red sparkle rewrap. The wrap is lifting and can be peeled off fairly easily, making this an ideal candidate for a proper restoration or professional rewrap.
• No Slingerland badge or grommet. A previous owner wrapped over the original vent hole, so the badge and grommet are no longer present.
• Missing one bass drum spur/leg.
• Two small screw holes were added by a previous owner in an attempt to hold the wrap down. These would be hidden during a proper rewrap.
• One bass drum hoop has a chunk missing. It still functions properly because the claw hooks on each side securely hold the head in place.
• The tom mount plate has a lightly engraved serial number.
• No other extra holes have been drilled into the shell.
• Spur brackets tighten securely despite one spur being missing.
• Chrome hardware is in very nice vintage condition with only normal age-related wear.
Overall, this is an excellent candidate for restoration. From a few feet away or on stage it presents well, but collectors will recognize it needs cosmetic work. The desirable 14x20 size makes this a great foundation for a vintage Slingerland restoration or a player's drum.
