This is factory labeled: " GOLD CROWN " (Best of 3 grades) PLUS it is Factory Labeled & STAMPED: "SPECIAL" Selection. That means that someone at the factory with old school experience in picking out the BEST made, best looking and best sounding of ALL the calf heads pulled only the best most special heads out and sent them to be separately packaged and labeled as "SPECIAL".
Additionally, the included original packaging is designated and STAMPED: "GOLD CROWN". They had three quality levels of Calfskin Heads.
The cheapest was labeled: "Economy".
The midgrade was labeled: "Diamond".
The BEST line was labeled: " GOLD CROWN ". That's what this one is!
The included original packaging is super cool! I got this over 45 years ago from a (even then) old Music Store that was going out of business. They had been in business since the 1910's.
Its been stored away all this time... I just re-found it today!!!
