Here is a 2012 Gibson Custom Shop '59 Les Paul Reissue in Lemon Burst finish. Includes the original Lifton-style hardshell case, CoA and other paperwork, truss rod tool and pickguard (although the bracket is missing). This R9 was special-ordered with a stunning, Eastern Hard Rock maple top (the species that the original "Bursts" were built with!). This top is very heavily-flamed, with mineral streaks and flecks in the grain that is unique to this species of maple. It's very 3-dimensional, with lots of movement in person, and the Lemon Burst finish compliments it quite nicely. The mahogany body looks lovely, too! When I think of the perfect R9, this guitar is exactly what comes to mind. It has great acoustic projection and resonance, and a very snappy response under the fingers. It's very lightweight at just 8.4 lb, and has a chunky, full-C neck topped with a chocolatey rosewood board. The pickups have been upgraded to Creamtone A3 PAF-style humbuckers, which are unfortunately no longer made. Creamtone is well-known for their historically-accurate plastics, but they made amazing pickups as well! These are exactly what you want out of a true PAF-style pickup: tight and punchy low end, with sweet, cutting highs. They have lots of definition like a PAF-style pickup should, and give you piano-like, crystal-clear cleans when you roll the Vol and Tone back. The original pickups would've been the Burstbucker 1 & 2 set, which are quite affordable and widely available on the used market if you ever wanted to put the guitar back to stock configuration, but in my opinion, the current Creamtone pickups give it much more character. This guitar is set up with 10-46 strings for low, comfy action and plays effortlessly! Here are the highlights:

  • 2012 Custom Shop '59 Les Paul special-ordered with a heavily-figured, Eastern Hard Rock maple top.
  • Lemon Burst finish. Excellent condition. Original case and paperwork included.
  • 8.4 lb.
  • Chunky, rounded-C neck profile with depth measurements of .89" and 1.00" @ the 1st and 12th frets.
  • Rosewood board, medium-jumbo frets, 12" fretboard radius.
  • Upgraded Creamtone Alnico 3 uncovered PAF-style pickups (no longer made).
  • Vintage-spec CTS 500k pots, bumblebee capacitors.
  • All original besides pickups and switch tip.

Condition: This guitar is in very clean condition, showing just a bit of general use overall. The frets hardly show any wear, with no divots or flattened spots. They feel great to play on! Up until the mid-2010s or so, Les Pauls left the Custom Shop with frets that have a wider crown than more recent ones do. Not to say that's problematic whatsoever, it's just something to be aware of if you prefer a fret that feels tall and narrow. As for the rest of the guitar, it presents as exceptionally-clean. Besides some typical surface swirling/micro-scuffing, it shows the occasional faint surface scratch, as well as a few small, light indentations/impressions, most notably on the back of the body next to the control cavity cover (see photos). What little play wear it does show is very minimal, which you really have to look for under direct light to notice. The "D" and "G" tuners are ever-so-slightly looser than the others when not under string tension, but this doesn't affect their functionality whatsoever. This is pretty common with a guitar of this age, and you'd probably never notice until it's time to change the strings. Finally, the knobs show minor internal fissuring, which is, again, pretty typical since they're quite fragile. They too function just fine, and that is purely cosmetic.

All in all, this is a very clean '59 Les Paul Reissue that stands out amongst the others on the used market. Amazing top, color, weight, playability and tone. What more could you want out of a killer R9?

*Note - Upon receiving the guitar, please let it acclimate to room temperature before opening the case and removing it. It's especially important with nitro-finished guitars to prevent lacquer checking/cracking. As always, when a guitar is being shipped to an area with a different climate, it's best to let it settle in for a few days before having any necessary setup adjustments made (if any) by a competent tech to fit your personal preference.

Please message me with any questions or concerns before submitting offers and/or payment and I will be happy to help.
