If the shape looks familiar, there's a good reason. The Axis traces its roots back to Music Man's original collaboration with Eddie Van Halen in the early '90s. The design evolved into the Axis, and I think it's become one of the best examples of a guitar that's greater than the sum of its parts. Everything just works.

Then there's the Ball Family Reserve treatment. BFR isn't just a badge. It's Music Man's way of showcasing woods and appointments that simply don't make it onto their standard production models. The flame maple top is stunning in Translucent Blue Burst, but for me, the real star is the roasted Birdseye maple neck. It's absolutely loaded with figuring, finished in Music Man's gunstock oil and hand rubbed wax, and feels every bit as good as it looks. Little touches like the pearl tuner buttons and the Ball Family Reserve inlay at the 12th fret remind you this wasn't built to be ordinary.

The DiMarzio humbuckers have all the punch and harmonic richness the Axis is known for, while the five way switch makes it surprisingly versatile. This 2010 example has been exceptionally well cared for, showing only minimal signs of wear, and includes its original hard case and Certificate of Authenticity. A beautiful BFR from one of Music Man's most iconic designs.
