Collector Alert! Up for sale is a 1937 National Style O Square Neck Resonator Guitar. This is, of course, exactly like the guitar Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits made famous on their "Brothers In Arms" album, except it is a Square Neck and does not have the etched palm trees on the sides. These square neck Style O's are uncommon and do not come up for sale very often. It is ironic, to say the least, that National's most visually Hawaiian guitar was rarely built in the true Hawaiian lap guitar style!
This particular guitar has seen heavy use, but it still plays and sounds great! The body has lots of scratches and imperfections, including a large dent on the back bottom corner. The neck is also missing the white binding (easy to replace). The tuners are vintage Kluson tuners, but I do not think they are original to this guitar. Five of the Six tuner buttons crumbled apart and have been replaced. Two of the tuner shafts are bent and a couple are pretty tight. Despite all this, the tuners are strong and do the job they are supposed to do. You will likely want to get a set of new vintage correct tuners just to make things easier. The resonator cone and bridge are original and function well. The nut is wood and is likely not original.
Guitar was strung up with new Martin Retro Acoustic MM13 Medium-Gauge Monel Nickel Strings. Includes a non-original case in good condition.
