You're looking at a Fender Mustang Bass from the line's first run in 1966. It's a vintage bass that looks great for its age—about to celebrate its 60th birthday in September! It's a 30" short-scale with basically all original parts, the exception being the tug bar/thumb rest and "hootenanny" button on the back of the headstock. It has original pickups, electronics, pick guard, frets, nut and all else. The neck is straight and the truss rod works. Tons of mojo. Only 7lbs 4oz.

This was a player, so there are a few quirks. The original celluloid tortoise pick guard has the usual warping that comes with its age, but it's all in one piece and all the screws continue to fit. The bass has been refinished in Olympic White nitrocellulose by Schroom Custom Guitar Works in Vallejo, CA. This includes a matching headstock. It looks great. Two holes were drilled for a bridge cover, but have been plugged and painted over during the refinishing. The bass continued to be played, and has the buckle rash and some forearm burn to show for it. The neck also seems to have had larger, rock maple inlays installed next to the original side dots for better low-light visibility. Again, it's a bass that has been played and wants to be played more.

It comes with the original hardshell case, which has been painted brown. Two of the latches need to be repaired, but the inside is in good condition. With some love it will do the trick. This Mustang is a short-scale, but it sounds big. The original split-coil pickup has wonderful depth to its tone, and the original pots are smooth and a joy to use.
