The CAPI VP28 DBL2 featuring the upgraded dual CAPI 2623-1-L Litz-wire output transformers with dual CAPI CA-0252 discrete op-amps is a full-featured 2-stage, 500-series microphone preamplifier designed by Jeff Stiger at Classic Audio Products, Inc. (CAPI). Modeled after vintage API console channel strips, it features dual gain stages, custom Carnhill transformers, and discrete op-amps to deliver classic punch, fast transients, and musical saturation.  

The VP28 DBL2 is highly favored for its incredible flexibility in gain staging. By utilizing both the line and preamp gain stages, you can drive the input transformer harder for rich, colored harmonic saturation, or keep it perfectly pristine at lower levels. It is widely used for tracking vocals, guitars, and drums, and is also highly praised for its performance on the 2-buss.

Litz wire is made up of multiple smaller strands, electrically isolated fromeach other and twisted together to make a single wire.  Considered to bethe "preferred" version of this classic transformer: it provides"a more uniform high end response" but ended up extending andfattening the bottom as well.
