1974 Fender Bassman Amp
Vintage Fender Bassman 50 tube amplifier head in very good working condition. This is a classic Silverface-era amp (circa late 1960s–early 1970s), made in Fullerton, California.
I’m calling this a 1974 model as the Master Volume Control was added by Fender beginning in 1975.
- 50 watts all-tube
- Dual channels: Bass Instrument and Normal
- Original Fender tube chart still intact inside cabinet
- Chassis serial number: A84427
- Transformer marked “Fender,” appears original
A previous owner had modified the amp (including a cathode/fixed bias switch and added outlet), but it was professionally restored about 20 years ago by amp tech Pete Cage. Pete removed the cathode/fixed bias modification and returned the amp to proper operation, then fine-tuned the channels for classic Fender voicings:
- Bass channel voiced warmer and earlier-breaking, closer to brownface / tweed-style response
- Normal (guitar) channel voiced cleaner and brighter, more in line with blackface Fender tone
The result is a very versatile head that covers a wide range of vintage Fender sounds while remaining stable and reliable.
Condition
- Very good vintage condition with typical cosmetic wear (light scuffs, minor oxidation on chassis)
- Tolex and grill cloth present well for its age
- Internals appear clean with tubes installed
- Functions as expected
- The back baffle has been repaired
Any questions please ask. Original Owners Manual included as well.
