This compressor shares a lot of the sonic characteristics of the classic Urei 1176, but with a few twists.
- FET Design It uses Field-Effect Transistors (FETs) as the gain-reduction element, similar to the classic 1176 style of compressors/limiters.
- Limiting Characteristics It has a fixed infinity:1 ratio and a fixed threshold, designed to function primarily as a hard limiter. Maximum gain reduction is around 15dB.
- High-Frequency Limiter A unique feature is a separate high-frequency limiting stage that acts as a dynamic low-pass filter to smooth out harsh high-end content.
- Sound Profile It can provide subtle compression or be driven hard for a "blown out" or "room smash" sound, making it popular for use on drum buss and bass.
