Yamaha MT8X 8-track cassette multitrack recorder in very clean cosmetic condition for its age.
I thoroughly cleaned and function-tested the unit before listing it. It successfully recorded and played back audio across all eight tracks, and I also verified internal track bouncing from tracks 1–4 onto tracks 5–8.
Tested and working functions include:
• All eight input channels
• Recording and playback on all eight tracks
• Input gain controls
• Channel EQ controls
• Channel faders and pan controls
• Track and group assignments
• Group masters
• Internal track bouncing
• Cue mixer
• Aux sends and returns
• dbx noise reduction and sync switching
• Vari-speed and fixed-speed operation
• Record/Pause and rehearsal functions
• Play, Stop, Fast Forward and Rewind
• RTZ, counter reset and memory functions
• Display, meters and indicator lights
The machine sounds good and performed well throughout testing.
There are two age-related issues that should be noted:
• The headphone output passes audio, but the headphone jack is intermittent. The plug may need to be repositioned slightly to maintain a stable centered stereo signal.
• Some transport and control buttons can occasionally require a second press or briefly register another transport command. All tested functions operate, but the controls can be somewhat finicky due to age. The Stop button also feels slightly softer or more recessed than the others, although it functions.
After the machine had been powered on and exercised following a long period of inactivity, the indicator lights operated normally. On an initial cold startup, some indicators took a short period of use before illuminating consistently.
The tape path and exterior were carefully cleaned prior to photography. The front panel, display, knobs and faders present very well. There are scratches and normal cosmetic wear on the underside, along with a few smaller signs of age elsewhere. Please examine all photographs closely for the exact cosmetic condition.
The RCA monitor, stereo, tape and two-track connections on the rear panel were not individually tested during this inspection and are therefore not being represented as verified.
The underside identification label specifies 100V, 35W, 50/60Hz. I have personally used the recorder from a standard U.S. wall outlet, but the buyer should review the voltage requirement and use the appropriate power arrangement for their location.
Cassette shown in the photographs is for demonstration only and is not included.
This is vintage electronic equipment and has not been professionally serviced recently. It is being sold based on the extensive functional testing described above, with all known quirks disclosed.
