FENDER JOHNNY MARR SIGNATURE JAGUAR IN BLACK NITRO 2016
This is the original Black Nitro finish, with 2 Bareknuckles. These don’t come up often!
It is honestly one of the best-playing and most beautiful guitars I’ve ever had and I absolutely wouldn’t be selling it if I didn’t have to sell something !! We have some nasty unexpected bills to pay.
I saw Joff Oddie of Wolf Alice not long ago describing Johnny Marr’s re-design of the Jag as “one of the best guitars made”.
I bought this from the original owner in January 2024, fully intending to keep it.
It’s in excellent condition. I’m strictly a bedroom player.
DETAILED SPEC:
2 Bareknuckle Alnico 5 Jaguar single coils, as fitted by Fender. The black pickup covers were fitted (and wax-potted) by Bareknuckle in 2024, onto the original pickups, as a custom order. The original 2016 Parchment covers are in the case if required.
Scale Length 24" (610 mm)
Fingerboard Radius 7.25" (184.1 mm)
Nut Width 1.650" (42 mm)
Neck Plate 4-Bolt Vintage-Style
Vintage-style floating tremolo tailpiece.
It has 22 frets. The frets are in very good shape, with plenty of life left.
The Maple neck is based of course on JM’s favourite 1965 Jag. I’ve seen it described as chunky but not fat. As someone who doesn’t generally get on with chunky necks, I’ve found this one very comfortable.
It has a Rosewood fingerboard, with a really gorgeous grain (I’ve tried but the photos are not doing justice to it).
It’s also had the 2 standard upgrades that everyone does to pre-2018 JM Jags …
First … a 52.3mm StayTrem bridge (much better suited to the string spacing on a 7.25” radius neck than the original 55mm bridge).
Also … Hipshot staggered locking tuners.
It has 2 upper-horn Slide Switches (one is intended for “universal bright” and the other to brighten position 4 of the pickup switch).
The original owner made one small wiring mod to the 4-way pickup switch which is easily reversible. I’ve kept it, though, because it works great. He had the second strangle switch altered (by a pro luthier) to allow out of phase switching in the series and parallel modes. Far more useful and cool sounding. So it is now a phase switch … no longer a bright switch, no longer a high pass filter. It works on Positions 2 and 4. It sounds particularly killer when both pickups are switched in series / out of phase (Position 4).
It’s strung with StringJoy 11s. JM himself recommends 11s, although on a short scale of course they feel like 10s.
It has v efficient straplocks, not fitted but in the case if required.
It has the Fender Jaguar hardshell case, which is very decent quality.
The Jag has been wall-hung in our non-smoking house in a room without central heating, out of direct sunlight.
Selling only within the UK, sad to say. Selling overseas from here these days is such a painful hassle.
Collection in person from NW London much preferred. But I’m happy to deliver within reasonable distance, or we could meet halfway at a rail station or motorway services.
