Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at one of the rarest quality E.V mics from the 1970's to mid 1980's era and very similar to the expensive and desirable RE55 model mic and...if you love the E.V 635A then you'll absolutely love this superior model from Electro Voice.
This is the obscure E.V DO54 dynamic omni-directional model set at 150 OHMS (low impedance) with an excellent frequency response of 40 - 18,000 HZ.
E.V sold the DO54 & PL9 model for about 15 years before it was discontinued and it comes in the original sage green painted finish. It's still in pretty decent physical condition after all these years. It sounds like new and it comes with the original E.V 312 model mic clip and vintage case in which to store.
Just like the E.V 635A the mics tone is strong and bright in nature. Even slightly dirty so it could be a fun harp mic as well. While it's technically Low Z it's not bass heavy at all. You can use this mic for both broadcasting and singing but again, it's omni-directional so it picks up a bit more background noise and would be good to use while playing a guitar.
Pic # 2 & 3 shows both the DO54 & later PL9 model and their basic characteristics. You don't see too many of these mics around much like the RE55 because these mics were high end and very expensive in their day. For some reason E.V decided to rebadge many of their mics using the "PL" designation which stood for "Professional Line". These were all of their higher end mics with studio applications. The DO54 is the earlier example however.
This smaller mic weighs a bit. Almost twice as heavy as the E.V 635A model even though it's shorter. It's just 5 3/4 inches long X 1 inch wide. It's built like a tank.
As you can see there are quite a few scratches, scuff marks and lite paint loss on the finish from years of use but still far above average compared to what few examples you'll come across if you can even find one? I haven't had one of these to offer in probably 6 years now though I just sold a PL-9 a few weeks back. The front grill is perfect and I replaced the inner pop filter as it was degraded from age. I cleaned the XLR pins as well ensuring a perfect signal once an XLR cable is attached though no cable is included. E.V label is not perfect. Lite wear but it's completely legible and you can barely make out that it's a 1981 model. I'd rate this mic a 6 + on a scale of 1 - 10.
The mic clip grips the mic firmly and works perfectly. Provides a wide degree of tilt and will screw onto and desk or floor stand you have. It has the easy adjust side thumb screw to get just the right amount of tension needed.
The older Zepher brand case is included as well and in excellent physical condition. It's an all plastic construction with a metal locking mechanism, rear joints and carrying handle. There is two new foam pads to keep the mic safe and snug. Locking mechanism works perfectly and it a nice accessory to have to keep this mic as safe as possible from physical damage. You'll really appreciate this mic to store the mic in when not in actual use and it's period to the mic so it's a very cool accessory.
If you demand an excellent working DO54 to use frequently...this is your mic and it will only increase in value due to physical condition and rarity.
MICROPHONE STAND IS FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY...NOT PART OF THIS SALE.
