I am selling my Teisco ET-300 guitar, made in Japan around 1964. I’ve added three German Musima pickups, which I believe are single coil, made sometime between 1962 and 1965. I rebuilt this as a keeper but recently picked up another similar Teisco so this one is for sale.

The deep red original finish is in nice condition, with nicks and scratches from playing over the years. The pickups are taller than the originals so I have added a slight wooden riser and shim in the neck pocket and a wooden height adjustment to the bridge, which makes everything play well. I drilled one hole to secure the pickups to the body then realized the original holes were perfectly aligned, which was nice. The neck is straight and the frets are clean. Action is low and all notes play.

Everything is original on this guitar except for the pickups, the bridge (which came from another 60’s MIJ guitar) and some of the filters. The original filters connected to the three way switches were most likely dried out so I replaced them with .01 UF 440 V film capacitors, which took a slight edge off the tone. I would have left them off completely but when wired directly the three switches did not pass sound.

The pickups are not as loud as some of the other 60's single coil ones I have played but they are very distinct in sound - and they are cumulative in output so when you add them together they become louder and the tones combine, which is very cool. They have good readings when tested directly but there are no readings from the jack, most likely because of the filters.

Some tech stuff:

Scale: 24.75 inches

Length: 39 inches

Lower Bout: About 12.75 inches

Pickup Readings (Direct)

Bridge: 7.0

Middle: 5.4

Neck: 6.4

The pickups sound brighter when the tone knob is turned all the way down, for whatever reason. It looks like the tailpiece/tremolo was adjusted or moved at some point. I do not have a tremolo arm for the guitar.

Includes the original metal Teisco headstock logo. No case but will pack professionally and ship quickly.

I’ve described this 60 year old guitar as best as I can with words and images, if you have any questions be sure to ask me before you buy.
