Up for sale is a vintage Truetone single-pickup electric guitar built by Kay in Chicago for Western Auto, dating to approximately 1959-1961.
This is an original American-made department store guitar with loads of vintage character and one of Kay's sought-after early "pancake" single-coil pickups. These guitars are known for their raw, punchy tone that's perfect for garage rock, blues, surf, indie, lo-fi, and vintage rock.
The guitar appears to retain its original pickup, bridge, tuners, pickguard, and electronics. The blonde/natural finish has aged beautifully and gives it the authentic vintage look collectors and players love.
Condition
The guitar is in good vintage condition and sounds amazing. It plays well and has the unmistakable character and tone these old Kay-built Truetones are known for.
As you'd expect from a guitar that's over 60 years old, it has some cosmetic wear, including scratches, small dings, finish wear, and general signs of use. These are purely cosmetic and do not affect the sound or playability in any way.
The Truetone logo on the headstock is worn off (still a bit visible), but otherwise the guitar retains its vintage charm and originality.
