Gibson / 1963 Dove

—Natural Color First Year Model

The Dove, introduced in 1962 as the square-shouldered body model following the Hummingbird.

While the Hummingbird features a hummingbird sipping nectar on its pickguard, the Dove features a dove resting on a branch, reminiscent of Rosa acycloalis.

The 1962 Dove was released in cherry sunburst, but from 1963 onwards, a natural color was added to the lineup.

It has a different warmth and sophistication compared to the cherry color, and the pickguard design stands out beautifully.

-Scale and Bridge

Also, while the Hummingbird has a medium scale, the Dove has a long scale, meaning the string length is longer. Furthermore, while the Hummingbird features an adjustable saddle, the Dove employs a Tune-O-Matic system.
This results in a crisp, well-defined, and sharp rock sound.

-Unseen Specification Changes
The Dove, introduced in 1962, underwent some specification changes the following year.
This involved the bridge plate.
The 1962 Dove used a 1-piece maple plate, while the 1963 model switched to a 3-piece structure.
This is likely due to increasing the thickness of the bridge plate to improve the durability of the bolts securing the Tune-O-Matic system and to add depth to the tone.

The beauty of the maple wood, the carving and coloring of the pickguard, and the mother-of-pearl dove inlay—all hallmarks of this higher-end square-shouldered model—offer a rarity and artistry unique to this instrument.

- There is a crack repair (glued) on the lower right of the pickguard.

- Both the body and neck have been over-lacquered.

[Playing Condition]
- String height at the 12th fret: 2.5mm on the 6th string side, 2.0mm on the 1st string side
- String height can be adjusted using the Tune-O-Matic.
- There are no buzzing or dead spots, and the playing condition is good.
