1964 King Zephyr Alto Saxophone – USA – Serviced & Play-Tested – Video

A lovely 1964 King Zephyr alto saxophone, made in the USA and now serviced, regulated and playing well throughout the full range.

The Zephyr is one of King's classic American saxophone models and this example has a wonderfully rich, full-bodied sound.

Service work

The saxophone has been carefully cleaned and serviced, including:

• Thorough cleaning inside and out
• Key stacks regulated
• New cork fitted where required
• Existing pads checked, treated and adjusted
• Mechanism lubricated where required
• Nickel keywork carefully cleaned and polished
• Full play-test following the work

It is currently playing cleanly from top to bottom.

Pads

For complete transparency, this saxophone has not had a full repad. The existing pads are older but are currently serviceable and the instrument is sealing and playing well following the service and regulation.

The playing video demonstrates the saxophone in its present condition.

Condition

For a saxophone now over 60 years old it presents very nicely.

There are naturally some scratches, marks and a few minor dings consistent with normal use and age. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

Case and accessories

The original case is no longer present, so I have supplied the saxophone with a new Gear4music case to protect it during storage and transport.

I also have a good used Hiscox case available separately if the buyer would prefer a more substantial case — please contact me for details.

I restore vintage saxophones in my spare time because I enjoy bringing interesting old instruments back into playable condition. I am not a high-volume commercial dealer, but I do take considerable care over restoration work and try to describe every instrument accurately.
