Up for sale is the ultimate holy grail speaker combination for classic rock and definitive "Brown Sound" tone. This is a complete quad set of four vintage 12-inch drivers consisting of two legendary JBL D120F Alnico speakers and two highly coveted Celestion G12H 30W T1281 "Blackback" speakers.
Eddie Van Halen famously cross-loaded his 4x12 cabinets with a mix of Celestions on the bottom for thick, resonant chunk and JBLs on top for blindingly clean, articulate highs. If you are looking to recreate that iconic multi-mic studio setup or live punch, this plug-and-play quad is exactly how you get there.
⚠️ CRITICAL TECH NOTE: JBL Vintage Polarity Warning
If you plan to load these together in a 4x12 cabinet, you must account for vintage JBL reverse polarity.
Unlike modern speakers and vintage Celestions, vintage JBL speakers move inward (negative phase) when a positive voltage is applied to the red terminal. To keep this quad properly in phase so they don't cancel each other out and destroy your low end, you must wire the JBLs intentionally "out of phase" relative to the Celestions (i.e., connect your positive lead to the black terminal on the JBLs, and negative to the red).

Condition Report
All four speakers have been tested, work properly, and function normally. They are being sold together as a matched tonal group. Please review the high-resolution photos carefully for exact cosmetic flaws:
JBL D120F Pair: The original aluminum dust caps show light, typical vintage pitting/surface patina as detailed in the pictures. The orange paint on the baskets is incredibly vibrant with only minor mounting wear. Cones and cloth surrounds are fully intact and structurally stable.
Celestion G12H Pair: The cones show typical cosmetic aging, dust, and minor fibers consistent with late-70s Pulsonic-era successors, but are solid with no tears. One speaker dust cap shows a small separation of the seal to the cone near the lead wire exit point as visible in the pics, which has no effect on its performance or structural integrity.
Shipping & Handling
Due to the massive weight of the heavy ceramic magnets on the G12H pair and the heavy Alnico magnets on the JBLs, these will be packed with extreme care. Each speaker will be individually wrapped, faced with protective cardboard over the cones, and double-boxed to ensure they arrive safely at your doorstep.
Reminder: You are buying the 4 speakers only. No cabinet/wood enclosure included.
