We’ve got a ridiculously rare Gretsch find for you today! This 1955 Streamliner (6189) comes to us in one of the model’s rarest finishes, with custom-ordered fretboard inlays. Fans of Gretsch’s western-inspired guitars (Round-up, Rancher, etc.) will recognize these inlay patterns in the fretboard. This would have been a special request for this model, as Gretsch’s Streamliners typically feature plain block inlays. The Streamliner was available in a few different finishes, and this one features a light greenish top dubbed “Bamboo Yellow,” while the back and sides sport a light metallic called “Copper Mist.” The pickguard even matches the back and sides! All in all, this guitar is in incredible condition, remaining surprisingly clean for its 71 years. On the headstock, you will find “Electromatic,” which is the model the Streamliner replaced when it was introduced in 1955. The Electromatic name would remain on the headstock until 1958. This original run of Streamliners was last listed in the catalog in 1959, making it scarce indeed given its short run.
