There I was in a shady part of town. (Well, my job takes me to places where the term “situational awareness” actually applies.) Just rummaging through this place—where the truth is always bitter—there before me sat the treasure of the Sierra Madre in the form of a Kustom Tuck-and-Roll 100.

When I inspected this relic from days past, nestled inside were the original papers—like a little time capsule waiting to be unearthed. As I looked it over for damage, the sales clerk began recounting the story: how the man who had lost it called incessantly for weeks, his hope dwindling with each passing day.

And yet, as always, the truth—unyielding and bitter—had the final say.

“Lee, buddy, chieftain, I didn’t show up here to get all depressed, bro!”

I hear you. But truths are truths, and that’s how this fine amp ended up here.

About this amp? Why not.

One hundred watts of solid-state defiance wrapped in tuck-and-roll. It survived the cultural wars. Survived being laughed at by the tweed-and-blackface crowd. Cast as the trailer-park cousin of the respectable set.

And yet… here it is.

Original speakers. Original everything that matters. Two channels that's immediate, tight, clean with teeth.

And yes—it works flawlessly.

What does it sound like?

I see the bad moon a-risin'
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightnin'
I see bad times today.

As for the aesthetics? Clean is my calling card, as some of you already know.

Swag? You can see it.

“Lee, why do you have to go into those shadowy places?”

Well, my friends, opportunities don’t just happen—you create them. And that’s why I go to the shady places… so you don’t have to.

P.S. These CTS speakers date to 1967, as indicated by the factory stamp. The amplifier itself is a 1970 build — and that’s not unusual at all. Kustom was well known for using existing inventory before ordering new components, so it’s completely correct to see earlier-dated speakers in a slightly later amp. Nothing swapped, nothing odd — just the way the factory did business.
