Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab 1964 ES-335 Ultra Light Aged Tea Burst -2024-
Through a relentless pursuit of ever-greater authenticity in vintage reproduction?a commitment that has continued for many years?and the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with digital technology, the latest Historic ES-335 has achieved an unprecedented level of perfection.
Gibson Custom Shop engineers have masterfully recreated every dimension of this rare original model, including the inlays and even the color.
It faithfully reproduces the specification changes made in the 1960s, including the slim cutaway horn shape, short pickguard, double-ring Kluson tuners, block position marks on the fingerboard, and the ABR-1 bridge with a nylon saddle!
While the g1961 ES-335 Reissueh in the same lineup features a gthinner neck shapeh typical of the f60s, this model is finished with an gAuthentic f64 Medium C-Shapeh based on scan data from a vintage original, and its slightly thicker profile is another appealing feature!
Itfs equipped with an unpotted, underwound Custom Backer pickup.
With its VOS-finished Tea Burst?a sunburst finish that has faded over time?this guitar isnft just a head-turner with its understated looks; itfs also a top recommendation for its sound!
The combination of an ultra-light aged finish by Murphy Labfs skilled artisans and lightly aged hardware recreates the look and feel of a vintage guitar thatfs been played just the right amount, capturing the unique appearance and playability of an old Gibson from the Golden Era.
As for the condition of this guitar, there are a few minor scratches and dents from use, but approximately 80% of the frets remain, and wefve confirmed that the truss rod moves 60 degrees in both directions, so itfs in good condition and ready to play right away.

-------------------------Murphy Lab Description-------------------------
Murphy Lab, established within the Custom Shop, is an aging division where a team of artisans led by Tom Murphy?a vintage expert and pioneer in aging?creates innovative aged products using new technologies.
Tom Murphy, a founding member of the Gibson Custom Shop who served as project leader for the development of the Historic Collection, has since made a name for himself with his aging techniques, which impart a vintage look and feel to brand-new guitars.
During that time, he has contributed to the aging of models for many legends, including Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Slash, Joe Walsh, Billy Gibbons, Joe Perry, Peter Frampton, Dickey Betts, and Gary Rousington.
Tom Murphy and Gibson scientifically analyzed the nitrocellulose lacquers from the 1950s and 1960s?which, by their very nature, develop cracks known as gweather checkingh beneath the finish over time?to unravel the process of this change. Through repeated testing on prototypes of every model, they developed a lacquer process that reproduces natural weather checking just like vintage instruments.
Based on the Historic Collection, Murphy Lab products are innovative aged finishes that fuse this new lacquer process with the hand-aging techniques Tom Murphy has refined over many years, offering the look, feel, and sense of ownership of a vintage instrument at an unprecedented level.
