The Gibson Banjo Neck for project part luthier unfinished factory

Offered for sale is an unfinished 5-string banjo neck that was acquired from a trusted source. According to the previous owner, this neck came from the Gibson factory in the 1970s?? from the best of his knowledge and has remained in its current unfinished state in his possesion since the early 1980s. Unfortunately, there is no documentation or factory paperwork to verify this history, so I cannot guarantee its origin. Please examine the photos and make your own determination.

Construction features include:

• Mahogany neck
• Ebony fingerboard
• 22-fret fingerboard with fret slots cut
• Adjustable truss rod installed with adjustment nut in place
• Peghead left oversized and unshaped
• Heel left unfinished and not fitted to a rim
• No frets installed
• No binding installed
• No nut slot cut
• No tuner holes drilled
• No fifth-string tuner hole drilled
• No finish applied

The neck measures approximately 26-3/8” scale length, which is consistent with a traditional Gibson Mastertone 5-string banjo. The heel width is approximately 2 inches, also consistent with Mastertone-style construction.

Based on the construction quality, materials, and measurements, it appears to be a professionally manufactured factory neck. Whether it is in fact a Gibson factory neck is left to the buyer’s judgment, as there are no stamps, serial numbers, or documentation to conclusively prove its origin.

This would make an excellent piece for a builder, collector of vintage Gibson parts, or anyone interested in an unusual unfinished banjo neck with an intriguing history.
