Nel giugno del 1983 Dan Smith ridisegna la Stratocaster: a differenza della precedente - soprannominata The Smith Strat - la nuova aveva un battipenna monostrato con 12 viti ma al posto della secondo controllo dei toni è stato messo l'ingresso a jack - sa qui nasce il nome "2-Knob" Stratocaster - ma sopratutto il Biflex Truss Rod che permetteva la regolazione del manico direttamente dalla paletta.
