This is Sadao Yairi's top of the line guitar. Look at the beautiful Honduran Mahogony grain on the neck.
First the bad news, there are cosmetic blemishes on the back side and the back of the neck around the 9th fret. These are purely cosmetic and I got used to them over time. The blemish is highlighted with the flash on the camera and don't stick out nearly as much under normal light. There is some finish checking on the top as is normal for guitars made in this era. Not ugly at all and many vintage guitar buyers agree that refinishing these collectible guitars is a big mistake.
The good news is that the guitar has no cracks or repairs. I believe the tuners are original, but I can't be sure. They look correct for the period. The guitar looks great even with the blemishes mentioned and other tiny nicks and scratches that can be expected on a 56-year-old guitar that has been played.
The action is ridiculously low. We are in electric guitar or acoustic guitar range. To raise the action, it would need a new saddle, a very easy fix. I left it as is because a lot of people want a low action.
Even with this low action there is no buzzing up and down the neck.
Rare is over used on Reverb but it is proper to call this a rare guitar. S Yairi was never a big shop operation and he personally worked on the top-of-the-line models
