A fantastic example of the Made in Japan Fender Pawn Shop ’51, finished in the highly desirable Candy Apple Red. Produced during the early Fender Japan Pawn Shop series, these guitars are becoming increasingly sought after for their exceptional Japanese craftsmanship, unique design, and outstanding versatility.
Inspired by the spirit of Fender’s earliest solid-body instruments, the Pawn Shop ’51 blends vintage styling with modern versatility. The lightweight basswood Strat-style body is paired with a comfortable one-piece maple neck, while the Telecaster-inspired chrome control plate and string-through hardtail bridge retain classic Fender simplicity. Rather than recreating a vintage model, Fender Japan designed the Pawn Shop ’51 as a unique hybrid that combines some of Fender’s most iconic design elements into one exceptionally versatile instrument.
Electronically, the Pawn Shop ’51 offers an impressive range of tones. A Fender Texas Special neck single-coil delivers warm, articulate cleans with the punch and character these pickups are known for, while the Fender Enforcer bridge humbucker provides higher output for classic rock, blues, and modern overdriven tones. The push/pull master volume splits the bridge humbucker into a true single-coil voice, dramatically expanding the guitar’s tonal palette. Pickup selection is handled by Fender’s distinctive 3-position rotary selector, creating a clean, uncluttered control layout unlike virtually any other production Fender.
This guitar is in Very Good condition and is fully functional. The front, neck, and headstock present exceptionally well, while the back of the body shows two noticeable cosmetic marks from normal use. These are strictly cosmetic and do not affect playability or performance, but they are reflected in the condition rating and price.
The original Candy Apple Red finish features Fender’s classic metallic candy depth and sparkle, giving the guitar a rich appearance that comes alive under different lighting conditions.
Please zoom in on all photos, as they are an important part of the description and accurately represent the guitar’s cosmetic condition.
