Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at one of the most iconic and collectible mics in American history. It's a vintage 1960's era Electro Voice 676 Dynamic Cardioid microphone with the adjustable bass drop off lever, original mic clip, long Belden cable in which to operate and the original box in which to store everything. This example is a very nice specimen and in perfect working condition that will be outstanding for singing and broadcasting purposes as it was designed.
It should be noted that I had to replace the original cable as it was in bad shape. This mic was also originally sold as a Hi Z model but I took liberties to build the new cable in low impedance because I find that people just prefer the tone of the low Z mics. High Z has a higher pitched "rockabilly" tone that is void of bass while Low Z has a more modern warm, smooth tone.
The box say's Hi Z but again, I built the new cable for a Low Z setting.
Pic # 2 shows this very mic as well as several others in an old E.V catalog. This was an ideal mic for singing and broadcasting and gave the user extra length to work with once mounted.
This mic will be an excellent choice for singing or broadcasting as it was intended.
This 676 was the same model mic that Jim Morrison from the Doors used frequently as seen in pic # 3. One of his favorite go to mics when performing live.
The 676 is a rugged all metal design that isn't too heavy making it easy to hold for prolonged periods of time. It can also be placed in the clip provided if needed. It's appx 7 1/2 inches long X 1 1/4 inch wide.
The 676 was only sold for about 15 years before being discontinued but it's still one of the most desirable model mics from the 1960's and 70's. Again, the tone is adjustable with the bass drop off lever built into the handle which works perfectly.
This microphone came in both the polished chrome body as well as the painted body and as you can see in the pics provided that this chrome example has virtually no cosmetic flaws. There is one small dent on the bezel of the mic by the front screen. Otherwise, gorgeous. The mic is solid and I'd rate it an easy 9 on a scale of 1 - 10. The front screen has no deformation, odors and zero tarnish. I replaced inner pop filter which helps greatly with sound characteristics. Even the E.V label looks very nice with very lite wear. This older mic takes a unique 4 pin screw on cable which is included.
The 676 comes with an original E.V 300 model mic clip in which to grip the mic and it's in very nice overall shape. It tilts accordingly and tension is adjustable via side screw. A great match and looks very good with the mic as well. The mic clip will screw onto any stand you have though the stand is included.
Again, the cable is provided and in excellent condition. It's a Belden 8422 premium type that has the original 4 pin connector and a quality Switchcraft male XLR end connector. It's free of damage and works perfectly. The cable is soft, pliable and 30 feet in length making it perfect for stage or studio work. It's a $70.00 cable any day of the week.
Last but not least is the 676 box in which to store your items. The box is in pretty nice shape too with a minimum of wear. I added a new inner foam pad to keep the mic safe and snug. Plenty of room inside for everything. A great accessory to have to keep these items safe from damage.
A solid, good working 676 mic continues to rise in value and one of the best investments in the vintage mic scene.
If you need something special to use for the daily...this will certainly do you justice.
