AKAI GX-646: 6-heads auto-reverse tape deck in perfect condition 

The high-class recording-play open deck which carried EE position, and it corresponded to EE tape, and aimed at the peak of the sound mechanism. 

EE tape is what uses the magnetic material for high-density record which was not used for the conventional open reel tape and is proud of high coercive force and a big residual magnetic flux density compared with the common ferrous-oxide system tape. In GX-646, to pull out the magnetic property, which was excellent in this EE tape, the amplifier circuit of an establishment meter, the recording head, and the erasing head are carried. 

By this EE position system, the dynamic range of a high region is expanded by about 6dB compared with the conventional LH tape, and the frequency response is also improving by leaps and bounds. 

To demonstrate the characteristic of EE tape to the maximum extent, the play equalizer damping time constant is also set up newly and is reducing the noise level. Moreover, the basic characteristic about the equalizer of EE position or compatibility other than bias is proportionate to international standards, such as IEC, like before. 

The new GX head is adopted as a recording head and a playback head. 

This new GX head is excellent in a dynamic characteristic, and a low-pass surge, and improvement of the cross talk is carried out, it has the feature that the characteristic in a round trip is uniform. 

Moreover, it excels in many characteristics, such as a frequency response in a high region, and a distortion, and is hard to wear out, and the characteristic excellent also in the secondary characteristics that garbage does not adhere easily and there are few seculars is demonstrated. 

Corresponding to EE tape with strong coercive force, the establishment meter of the powerful double gap type was carried out to the erasing head, and it is adopted as it.

The good sample & hold system servo circuit of the servo characteristic and AC servomotor with built-in CPG by which it has been evaluated since GX-635 are adopted as a capstan drive, and it has become a 3 motor DD system using the exclusive motor which became independent to the reel drive, respectively.

The reel size selector which can acquire a proper tension according to a bias adjustment knob or reel size, the output volume which can also adjust a headphone output, large-sized VU meter, etc. are carried.
